Last week, Jess Mills joined our recruitment team and to say that she is excited about it would be an understatement.
"I have been overwhelmed by the level of support, welcomes, and smiles I have received since starting,” said Jess.
“I want to say a big thanks to my fellow recruitment colleagues Gary and Celeste for making me instantly feel at home. All my thoughts and ideas have been encouraged and supported and I am excited to be around a team of equally ambitious and passionate recruiters.”
Since starting out in recruitment, Jess has been constantly challenged, stimulated, and motivated.
“I have seen a huge improvement in my confidence and being able to communicate effectively. I have been lucky to gain incredible skills, build an amazing network around me and play a role in shaping the teams of big companies,” said Jess.
Jess chose recruitment for two reasons, big challenges, and big rewards, saying that if you work hard, you get rewarded in more ways than one. On top of this the new member of the team is excited about helping someone land their dream job.
“I can confidently say that I am on the candidate’s team 100 per cent of the time, if they are in the right position then both the candidate and the employer win,” said Jess.
While Jess loves her job, it’s not without its challenges saying that COVID has tightened the market.
“We have been very lucky here in WA but finding the right people to join our team can be challenging due to the limited candidates we have access to with the border closures and restrictions,” said Jess.
For those looking to land a job with Schlam, Jess suggests that the first thing they should do is pick up the phone or send her an email. However, on top of this would be candidates should find a way to stand out.
“Connect with recruiters in your field on LinkedIn, reach out to people working at the company and get insight into the role, ensure your CV is current and well written, follow up after you have applied, and always remember to be honest and upfront regarding your expectations,” said Jess.
Outside of the office, Jess spends a lot of time out and about exploring new places, trying new things, and getting her hands on anything creative.
