It is not a secret that every business needs money to operate. Whether you are running a service-based or product-based business, you'll need capital if you want to make a profit. However you choose to finance your business, there's no denying that managing your finances wisely is critical to it's overall success.
Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming new starter Quinton, who has joined Schlam to undertake the role of Senior Management Accountant.
The most fundamental skills you need to be successful as a management accountant are an aptitude for and interest in numbers, math, business and production processes, and helping to manage a business - thankfully Quinton has had over 20 years of experience in finance and is well suited to the challenge ahead.
Quinton is no stranger to the mining industry either, with his two most recent roles being in mining support.
"I worked for Kaefer for three years, prior that I worked at Steelstruct Engineering for nearly eight years. Both previous roles, were in mining support services, however to that I have a wide and varied industry spread including spending three years living and working in London" he explained.
Just about every business, regardless of industry, requires the services of an accountant in various degrees, which means the potential to find a job in just about every corner of the globe is endless. So why did Quinton choose to join Schlam?
Over the period of time Quinton has spent working in the mining industry, he decided that his next career move needed to stand out for the rest - that's when he discovered Schlam.
"The major drawcard to the company was the story of the humble beginnings, transforming into the great company we see in front of us today. This along with an ideology that resonated strongly with me, the location and the general cultural feel of the business during the interview all pointed to a company I could see a future with" He said.
For some industries, finance could be a department that runs in the background, but for Schlam it's right up there as one of the most important components to ensure the success of our day-to-day business.
"I enjoy the ability to work in any business in most parts of the world. Using my skills to help a business in a number of financial and non-financial ways is important to ensure the success of the company, myself and my colleagues" Quinton said.
